The new Hands showroom occupies a prime location on the main MG road, linking Delhi and Gurgugram. The retail outlet’s ideal position enjoys unrestricted visibility from cars and passerbys, allowing the brand to exhibit and promote its exquisite carpet collection. The primary design intent for the retail store takes cues from the art of carpet weaving, and aims to highlight the carpet as a ‘piece of art’. The patron’s certitude of his products which are a feat of design and workmanship demanded a space that would showcase them in their true spirit, as art pieces. It is no wonder that this experiential space has won accolades from the Delhi Architecture & Festival DAF in 2016 and the Global Architecture and Design Awards in 2018.
On arrival, the double height space houses a gigantic display for the ‘showstopper’ carpet imparting a striking impression. The cut-outs grant glimpses of the showcases on the other levels and contribute to the spatial unity of the showroom. The carpet displays were designed with variation to break the monotony for its beholders. (Add a line here on the award — the project has received great recognition from across the country.
